Calcium and magnesium deposits in the plumbing

Will installing a water softener clear up the calcium and magnesium deposits in the plumbing, or is there something else I will need to do?

Answer: A water softener removes the hardness (calcium and magnesium) from your water, so you should not need to install anything else. Over time, the scale deposits that have accumulated in your piping will be removed by the soft water. One note, if your water is supplied from an onsite well (where iron or sediment may be present in higher amounts), then it is advisable to install a cartridge based sediment pre-filter. Consider one with a 5-micron filter efficiency.
